About Tarapoto

Tarapoto is located in the province of San Martin, approximately one hour by plane from Lima. Known as the City of Palms, the city is surrounded by nature, waterfalls, lagoons and large green mountains, which offers tourists entertaining outdoor activities such as hiking and trekking. To the north of the city is the Cordillera Escalera Regional Conservation Area, which is 150 km of highly bio-diverse rainforest.

About the airport

Cadete FAP "Guillermo del Castillo Paredes" Airport or Tarapoto Airport is located 2 to 3 km from the city's main square and has excellent public transportation connectivity. It only operates domestic flights and offers all the services to welcome tourists visiting the Peruvian Amazon, such as ATMs, restaurants, fresh juices, fast food, passenger FAQ service, private car rental offices and souvenir stores.

What to do Tarapoto?

If you like to experience nature in depth, go on excursions, visit viewpoints and swim in waterfalls, then Tarapoto is the perfect destination for you. The Ahuashiyacu Waterfall,  home to several species of trees, is located 30 minutes from the city. 25km northwest of the city, in Lamas, you can visit a medieval Italian-style castle. Or, go to the Blue Lagoon, located in the Sauce district, ideal for water sports, and nearby, you can choose to take a thermal bath with black mud, perfect for an afternoon of relaxation. There is no doubt that you can learn more about the city by walking through the Plaza de Armas, where you will find the traditional handicraft fair where you can buy souvenirs.

In this Peruvian Amazonian city, it is hot all year round with an average temperature between 26ºC and 34ºC. To enjoy the tourist attractions, it is important to keep in mind that the rainiest months are March and April.
