About Cajamarca

Cajamarca is located in northern Peru, in the mountains of the Andes Mountain Range. Colonial baroque architecture and the varied traditional activities, history and beautiful scenery are the main attraction for tourists. It is only one hour by plane from Lima, or you can take the Pan-American Highway from the Peruvian capital and take the 13 hour road trip. To make the most of your stay in Cajamarca, known as the "land of fields", remember to bring comfortable walking shoes and a raincoat in case unexpected rain surprises you on any of your outdoor excursions.

About the airport

Major General FAP Armando Revoredo Iglesias Airport, also known as Cajamarca Airport, is located approximately 3.5 km from the city and offers domestic connections. Restaurants and cafes are available for passengers, as well as excellent connectivity to public transportation.

What to do Cajamarca?

Visit Plaza de Armas, the main square, which is surrounded by ancient architecture and colonial mansions. There you will see the Monastery of San Francisco, the Museum of Religious Art, the Cuarto del Rescate, where the last Inca emperor was held prisoner, and the unfinished work of the Towers of the Cathedral of Santa Catalina. There is also the Archaeological Museum, which exhibits baroque art. Two blocks from the Plaza de Armas is the Santa Polonia hill, which has a panoramic viewpoint with an unmissable view of the entire city. In the outskirts of the city there are many places you can visit such as beautiful estates that offer experiential activities. Hot springs and thermal waters are also available. Ventanillas de Otuzco, which are ancient pre-Inca burial grounds. Only 9 km southwest of Cajamarca, visitors can see the Cumbe Mayo Archeological Complex, the Sanctuary, the Cave that exhibits petroglyphs, and the Bosque de Piedras (Stone Forest).

The warm season in Cajamarca is from December to March, where the average temperature is 18ºC (64ºF). The coldest month to visit the Peruvian city is July, where the temperature varies between 5°C (41°F) and a maximum of 16°C (61°F). In general, summers are cool and cloudy, and winters are short, cold and dry.
